Since it opened its first store on Flinders Lane, Melbourne in 2007, Australian skincare brand Aesop has gone on to open a subsequent 100 stores globally, its latest in Norway, and emerge as one the best locally-born brands in the category. Originally designed as a temporary installation by Rodney Eggleston of Melbourne architecture firm March Studio, this week Aesop re-opened the Flinders Lane flagship after an extensive renovation by the brand’s in-house design department. Employing the use of 1500 industrial cardboard sheets, stacked in undulating forms and designed to soften and wear with age, the space is cavernous in its appeal and a stark contrast to the brightly lit white interiors of the majority of the beauty industry’s retail executions.
