The agideas International Design Forum will be held as part of the forthcoming Designer Matters Melbourne International Design Week, and to celebrate its 25 anniversary the one-day event has announced a stellar line-up of speakers, each personally selected by Australian designer Ken Cato AO, to share insight into their ideas and practices. Across the industries of graphic, product and industrial design, as well as animation, illustration and typography, the event celebrates both local successes and international leaders.

Highlights include Miki Setlur, a senior product designer at Twitter working on everything from foundational design frameworks to high growth emerging market initiatives; VFX designer and art director Neil Huxley, whose standout work is seen in James Cameron’s Avatar and Zack Snyder’s Watchmen; furniture designer and craftsman Dirk Vander Kooij, visiting from the Netherlands, who is a pioneer in 3D printing technology; and Dawn Zidonis, the executive director of San Francisco Design Week.

“The forum is designed to inspire and celebrate design excellence, innovation and creativity both globally and right here at home,” explains Mr Cato. “We’ve identified the key areas of need for designers in the global market place and then selected designers whose ideas and execution of their craft in these areas stands out.” Tickets are now on sale, with special prices for students.
