Every year at the beginning of the spring season, boutique shopping precinct Strand Arcade hosts a special up-late event – those typical shopping events whereby customers are invited to spend with the added bonus of a glass of free champagne in hand – but, in marking the unique nature of its building, welcomes its designers, too. In effect, it’s a meet-and-greet between customers and those behind the brands they buy, and it demonstrates the calibre of Strand Arcade’s tenancy, with the likes of Dion Lee, Patrick Johnson and Jac+Jack operating stores.
At this year’s ‘Evening With Our Designers’ event, being held this Wednesday 13 August, the Strand Arcade has created men’s specific activity in attracting the other halves of the female shoppers already in attendance. Strand Hatters, a perennial favourite on the pages of Manuscript, will be transformed into a cocktail lounge, with complimentary hat steaming and shaping, a beer masterclass and tastings with Young Henry’s Brewery, a book signing by Giuseppe Santamaria, the photographer and author of Men in this Town, and complimentary shoe shining by Prince Consorts Shoe Shine.
Elsewhere in the building, Suit Shop – the ready-to-wear division of P. Johnson Tailors – is welcoming clients to create a pair of trousers from a range of cloth available exclusively on the night; Mister Mister will be customizing the rear tag on denim jeans ordered on the night; Andrew McDonald will be staining hand-crafted leather shoes in a range of limited-edition colours, and stamping initials on their soles; Jac+Jack will be introducing a range of cashmere sweaters in a limited edition colour palette; and, if it leaves you hungry, Victor Churchill and Ocello Cheese Providore is setting up shop in the Strand Arcade for the evening, offering their range of premium meats and imported farmhouse cheeses.
